The root problem seems to be in an interaction with libxcb. Is this a known problem? Any ideas on what I can try if it appears to be my installation at fault? I do occasionally see crashes when using other programs but they normally just close instantly not freeze.Īny help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't normally have any other programs running, just GVIM and a web browser. I have the latest BC beta installed on two other PCs, running Vista and 7 and have not seen this freeze.īoth files are in my $HOME directory which has 36GB of free space.
When I restart I find that all my files and settings are intact. The other 5% of the time BC freezes completely, the program icons turn dark grey and I have to force BC to close. 95% of the time the save works as it should and I carry on with what I am doing. After merging several hundred lines from file in the left hand window I save the updated file by using the save icon above the right hand window. The program appears to be a little sluggish but at least is does allow me to do everything that I can already do on my other PCs.

I've been using BC for some years on various versions of Windows so I decided to install the latest beta.
I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an aging PC and have struggled to find a "free" alternative to beyond Compare, there really isn't anything else that approaches its abilities.
