Some have asked what I got to eat if I did My mode of life, which some would call impertinent, though they do notĪppear to me at all impertinent, but, considering the circumstances, Very particular inquiries had not been made by my townsmen concerning I should not obtrude my affairs so much on the notice of my readers if At present I am a sojourner in civilized life When I wrote the following pages, or rather the bulk of them, I livedĪlone, in the woods, a mile from any neighbor, in a house which I hadīuilt myself, on the shore of Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts,Īnd earned my living by the labor of my hands only.
CLOUD ATLAS GENTLENESS OS STRENGTH FREE
Most often, to describe the character in which strength and gentleness are perfectly combined, for instance, a horse obedient to the reins, a watchdog friendly to the family owning him, there is great strength present, but it is tempered by a gentle spirit.Īristotle had this to say about “prautes”, “the ability to bear reproaches and slights with moderation, and not to embark on revenge quickly, and not to be easily provoked to anger, but to be free from bitterness and contentiousness, having tranquility and stability in the spirit.” (On Virtues And Vices), this does not imply that there is never a place for anger in the gentle man. To describe the ability to take unkind remarks with good nature, for instance, as when embroiled in controversy, being able to discuss things without losing one’s temper because of unkind and unfair personal remarks. To describe gentleness of conduct, especially on the part of people who had it in their power to act otherwise, for instance, a CEO coaching a first level manager who failed a particular task, where the CEO has the authority and power to fire the individual, but chooses instead to mentor, show kindness and forgiveness, such a leader would be praised for his gentle and meek behavior. Prautes relates to persons or things, which have in them a certain gentle nature, for instance, having a humble and kind demeanor, which calms a situation. Defining “PRAUTES” (Gentleness, Meekness) Also, while “meekness” is a good attempt to translate the word, there is a common misconception about the meaning of “meekness” itself, it is often used to suggest a form of cowardice and weakness, but there is no such idea in the Greek word “prautes” One of the quality (eighth,) which serves to constitute the fruit of the Spirit ( from Bible) is “gentleness” (“meekness” in the KJV.) The Greek word is prautes (prah-ot’-ace.) A bit hard to define, for there really is no English word that corresponds to the Greek.
CLOUD ATLAS GENTLENESS OS STRENGTH MOVIE
The movie reminded me that ‘in gentleness there is strength.’ It’s also known as ‘meekness.’ Many of us in the corporate spectrum and people who are life coaches hear a lot about these things, and being a person of faith (Christian,) I am starting to see that Bible already has a wealth of text that the corporate world is trying to convey and or trying to find…i.e. Are you a thought leader who practices “gentleness (prautes).” The bucket list…I loved the movie, saw it for the first time.
